The first day...
Is it a bat?
Is it a babe?
Is it?
Could it be?
It was.
It was January 22.
The day on which a large contingent
of newbies entered the gates of the High School.
"Kewl!!" one
of them said.
"Kewl!" another said - wide-eyed and more enthusiastically.
"What?" said another, nonplussed
"A pewl party!"
"A what?"
"A Pewl Party"
No comprehension.
"Oh, a pool
party" she said, brightly. "Cool!!!"
"Not!" groaned
those attempting to be.
"Very kewl
..." another said, determinedly and bravely.
"Especially in this heat," another concurred.

This was the welcome party arranged
by the prefects for our new Grade Eight students.
"It'll make them more
comfortable," a prefect said wisely.
"More relaxed," others agreed
"More at ease," a third said.
"We want them to think
that high school is fun!"
So we started off with ice breakers

And guided tours

And obstacle courses

And then watermelons
And all agreed. Everybody in
Grade Eight did think High School was fun. And they were all more relaxed. And more
comfortable. And definitely at ease.
