2001 Founders' Day Celebrations
The 2001 Founders' Day banner inviting
all past pupils to attend the Founders' Day celebrations. Founded in September 1884 and officially opened in 1885, Wynberg Girls' High celebrates Founders' Day this Friday, on September 14. Then, the school had two teachers - Misses Annie Brink and Nellie Brink - and twenty-seven young boys and girls. The first principal was Miss Margaret Stewart and the first Standard Ten class matriculated in 1892. Today, the school boasts an academic staff of fifty-two members, Mrs Shirley Harding is the principal, and the girls' school has more than 900 pupils. At the moment, we have 173 matric students writing their prelims and preparing to sit the 2001 Western Cape Senior Certificate examinations. The celebrations begin with a Cheese and Wine function to be held in the Aileen Currie Hall from 18:00-20:00 on 13 September to which all past pupils are cordially invited. The following day a special tea and assembly to honour the occasion will be held for all past pupils. This will be followed by a number of sports events between the First Teams at the school and an honorary Past Pupils' team. The school would be delighted to welcome all past pupils and encourages those who would like to attend any or all of the functions to contact the school at 797 4163.
