A large amount of bustle and excitement preludes this large event in Waterloo Houses’ social calendar. It provides a chance for the girls to dress up and an evening of really good food in our transformed dining room. Not to forget, of course the beginning of a new era of leaders, which is always a time of excitement as the girls test just how strict the new leaders are. The evening began with an avocado ritz for which many shrimps were sacrificed. This was accompanied by a welcome to everyone from Mrs Cheney. Amidst the candlelight and laughter, many photos were taken by new (and old) prefects of their fellows and parents. A speech from Mrs Harding followed. Always inspirational, she reminded us just how large a job the hostel prefects play in our lives and how hard they work. There were also moving speeches from Kelly Bevan (ex-Head Girl) and Tessa Fredericks (new Head Girl) There was quite a bit of laughter when Tessa, being waterpolo captain, forgot that the Hostel’s name was Waterloo and not Waterpolo House! The highlight of the evening was the candle ceremony where in the darkened room the new prefects take a pledge to “keep the light shining” at Waterloo House and the old prefects’ candles are extinguished. The new prefects then received their certificates from Mrs Harding and the evening ended with a lovely apple pie and cream! Hailey Griffiths |
