Grade Eight RCL Election
Tuesday 1 February
The hall fills with girls, pens intact and ready to elect the three girls who are to
represent them - to be their voice - for their Grade 8 year. There are twelve girls who are running for office:
they are seated on the floor, facing their electorate. With them are Mrs
Harding and Ms McCarthy, who will be running the election. Mrs Harding
congratulates all of the candidates on their willingness to take on this
roll, and reminds all voters of how how very difficult it is for
them to talk to such a huge crowd of people, and still try to persuade them that they are
indeed the best person for the job. They are reminded of the importance of the
position, the responsibility that goes with it, and the fact that the
running of these elections and the filling of these positions are
determined by law.
Ms McCarthy introduced the nominees running for position: In alphabetical
order they are:
| Jade Beckett |
Nicole Comninellis |
| Sian Goodson-Coutts |
Banita Kassen |
| Alex Kosterman |
Bronte Moeti |
| Nishaat Norodien |
Kelly Petersen |
| Buyelwa Simani |
Siobhan Slier |
| Nikke Steenkamer |
Anita Yaso |
Each girl had two minutes to sell
herself. They begin their speeches, each carefully thought through. The girls speak
clearly and articulately. All were brave, and all are to be commended for being
willing to take on the challenge. With any election however, there have to
be winning candidates. The Grade Eights of 2005 awarded their votes to

Congratulations to you all: may you be
