All these thoughts, prayers and memories were written by her friends and formed part of their tribute to her at the Memorial Service they arranged for her.

For Candice

Prayer for a child

Heavenly Father
Our Saviour
Who took children into his arms and blessed them
Receive your child, Candice,
In your never-failing care and love

Father of everlasting Compassion,

See your children growing up
In an uncertain and confusing world
Show them the path of life
Enable them to triumph over failure and frustration
To hold fast their faith in you
And to keep alive their joy in creation
Through Jesus Christ our Lord
Amen

from Lindsay Hercules

I have known Candice for many years, and what attracted me to her was her smile - even when things went wrong. She had a great sense of humour and always cheered people up with her jokes. She always had something to say and never let anybody down.

She was quite fond of imitating famous people's voice and she was quite good at it too. She would often come to school and tell us about a movie she had watched the afternoon before, and act it out imitating the voices at the same time. It was as if we had our own live entertainment at school

We will always remember Candice for her goodness and well cherish the memories we have of her.

She has gone to a better place and we are glad for her. One day we will be reunited with her.

We wish our friend farewell.

from Megan Riddel

No words can ever describe what Candice meant to me and I am sure that there are a lot of other people who feel the same way. The friendship between Candice and me was quite different to what other people might have thought. We always sat together in class and when we were teogether we were never lost for words. Although we never actually had break together, she was only a few steps away.

I met Candice when I was in standard three and even though we were not in the same classes in standards four and five, the school day was never over until Candice and I had had our say together. She almost never had a norrible thing to say about anyone nad I am almost certain that there are people out there sho never had a horrible thing to say about her.

I will always remember the craze history lessons, the confusing maths and all the wacky stories about what she and Tina did in art. Then there were the computer games, and all the times where she go so irritated because as she would explain something to me, I would make her stop and start again because she lost me somewhere between what the FX sound card is and Midtown madness

I know that I will never understand why. But I will always be grateful for the love and friendship she gave me.

I am speaking to you today as a friend of Candice, and on behalf of her class, 9LK, whom she touched with her gentleness, loving smile and warm heart.

We will aways remember her open, big, infectious smile, her bright eyes behind those cute glasses ant her hair tied back in a pony plait. Although she was a quiet person, she could always make us laugh. She had a wonderfully warm sense of humour

She was also a very talented artist, with an amazing ability to draw cartoons. Her class will always remember her sitting at computyping, and whilst we were hard at work she   would    have     fun!!.

Then, when the teacher came around, she would smile innocently and the teacher would not suspect a thing.

For Candice with love from Tammy

We may not have been gifted with our words
In our writings or in our deeds
We may not have been fited in helping you
In your time of any needs
We may not have been gifted in showing you
How much you really mean
Because these things were usually locked in our hearts
For nobody to see
BUT we know we were dearly gifted
To have a friend like you
Someone who we felt comfortable with
In everything we do
We want you to know how loved you are
In our lives a very special part
We love you and will never forget you
You remain a very special piece of our hearts.

Holly Tamlin wrote this poem in loving memory of her very best friend, Candice.

Candice, I thank you for being my very best friend
I never thought that all our happy times would ever come to an end.
I will always remember the times we shared
Knowing that in each other we had a friend who cared
With your sense of humour, you always made me smile
You laughed and giggled, joking all the while.
But the very best thing was your talent to draw
Your sketches were brilliant, the very be I ever saw.
I'll miss the break times, we had each day
But in my heart you'll always stay
God I thank you for the friends you help us choose
And for the memories of Candice I will never ever lose

Finally, Kim Else, her Physical Education and Class teacher of 1999, said this of her

Candice showed a great love for Sport and Physical Education. She demonstrated commitment, perseverance and a burning desire to perform to the best of her ability.

Some of her favourite sports were Cricket, Basketball, Soccer and Softball. She encouraged her fellow class-mates to jump off the high diving board during Physical Education lessons and always gave 100% of her best.

In everything Candice participated with great enthusiasm, and her contribution and smile will be missed at Wynberg Girls' High School.

Farewell, Candice, and thank you.

Rest in peace.

Kim Else
