Past Pupils who matriculated between the years 1995-1999 1999 Lindy
Clarke (1999) wrote to us in February: "I decided to run a search on google (SA pages only) with my name and was surprised when I saw the webpage! It was about Eve...olution. There is even a photograph.
I can't wait to tell Claire - with whom I'm still good friends. I'd like to thank you for putting it up - I'll have my fifteen minutes after all!
I had a look at the past pupils pages. What a nostalgic trip that was. However, I'd like to ask to please update the UCT graduates list. There was quite a few of us there these past few years. I often saw Dale Bedford, Lisa Avis, Kim Allies, Allisse and Rene Carslake, Delores Volkwyn, Anna Taylor, Lynne Shelley and Claira Wiid just to mention a few. I received my BA degree in Film Studies and Psychology in December 2003 at the same as Claire van den Heever who majored in English and Drama.

(1999) updated us in 2001 -
"It's
nearly 2 years since I've moved to England and you could say it's been rather
life-changing. From starting off doing A-levels, to spending 8 mths As an au pair in
london to going through 4 different hair shades, I have finally "settled down". I am currently working for Virgin Active (a
gym/life centre) as a children's fitness coach. I've been with the company for 3 months
and I was promoted as supervisor 2 weeks ago, and could possibly be the youngest in
management by next year. I'm thoroughly enjoying it, and have really found my niche within
the company. You could say I was lucky, especially as they will keep on training me to
move further in the company, and I have hopes of pinching Richard Branson's job one day!
Hopefully once Virgin has refurbished the Health and Racquet clubs in SA, maybe I'll have
a chance of working home for a bit! Nothing much else had happened. I have done a bit of
travelling, not as much as I had hoped to. Been to Cyprus, Spain and Ireland, but there's
so much more to explore. She wrote in 2002: "I am once again back home in not-so-sunny England. It's been an interesting year, having started the year training kids to get fit in the gym, then moving on to front-of-house to deciding to get a job working for Mark Warner (a tour operator who works out holidays for well-off people). I applied to be one of the kids reps, or nannies as we are called here. I landed up being placed in Turkey for 5 months and had the time of my life. I met some amazing people and Turkey itself was quite interesting. I landed up doing the activities for the 13-18 year olds (the Indies) so was called an Indie leader. I learnt how to sail, waterski and windsurf and did my fair share of swimming in the sea and jumping off boats. All in all a wonderful experience. I've met life-long friends (a lot of them South African and Kiwi's). But the fun has ended and I'm back working for Virgin Active - this time I've been promoted to Membership Sales. Its quite a buzz and it's all about making money ;-) Her e-mail address: angie@eaglehouseschool.com In 2004 she is back in London, and is keen to organise a reunion for those who matriculated in 1999 - contact her at angie@eaglehouseschool.com

(1998) I have attached a photograph
that was taken when I visited Cardiff, Wales earlier this year. The person standing with
me is a good friend of mine and the restaurant behind us had possibly the most delicious
food on its menu that I have ever tasted. Mail address: bleam80@hotmail.com Other past pupils from this year who have registered at SAReunited include 1997 Gargan Gina (1997) We received a delightful letter from Gina in September 2002 who wrote "I always remember being asked what I would like to do one day. At that time there were two careers I thought would be terrible, namely dentistry and teaching. Well, I've had to eat my hat as I am now just finishing my PGCE (old HDE)at UCT and am very much looking forward to teaching Biology and Maths next year. I matriculated in 1997 and started a BSc in 1998. I graduated with a BSc in Zoology last year (2001) and decided I really wanted to work with young people. I know it's the right decision and I have really enjoyed my teaching practicals and my course this year. I have also continued with Toastmasters at UCT and have been president for the past two years. I've kept in touch with quite a few friends from WGHS. Tammy Foster is graduating this year with a BSc (chemeng), Kirsten Corin is finishing her Chemistry honours and Karen Doyle is in her penultimate year at Onderstepoort, studying to be a vet." Other past pupils from this year who have registered at SAReunited include 1996 Jemma Jones wrote to us in October 2004: "I matriculated in 1996, seems strangely ages ago and yet not so long ago all at once! I was only at Wynberg for two years, but lived in the hostel as well, so I guess I still have quite vivid memories of it all. It would definitely be interesting to hear how some of the other hostel girls from around that time are getting on anyway! I just found the website on a whim, really, and it made me feel a bit emotional! Still got the same uniform, although there seem to be a few more houses than I remember......I'm now living in Portsmouth in the UK, unfortunately as a single mum but having a great time in spite of it all. My little boy, Ethan, is two years old, really bright and non-stop most of the time! After I left Wynberg, I spent 3 years at UCT studying Fine Art, but dropped out before I could complete my degree, mainly because I was young and didn't really have a clue what I wanted to do with my life. I travelled the world, visited and worked in a variety of places and ended up in Portsmouth after working on the channel ferries. Ethan put my life on hold for about two years, but I'm now back at college studying biology, sociology and psychology and will be applying shortly to Southampton University to study Occupational Therapy. I wish I could tell Mrs Damstra that I've taken the biology route after all! It was always my favourite subject and she was one of the best teachers I ever had. I wish all the best to all this year's matriculants and hope everything's working out for all my old classmates and especially the other hostel girls. Her e-mail address is jemma@capedomain.co.za Catherine Lavery (1996) After leaving
school in 1996 I spent a year in Clarens, Free State, doing a Frontier Year Project - I
had an amazing year, working into Lesotho and the surrounding towns of Clarens. Contrary
to views most people might have of the Free State, Clarens is a beautiful little town
about 10 minutes from the Golden Gate National Park and surrounded by mountains and
scenery. I helped to set up a number of social-upliftment projects that year and, after a
year back in Cape Town at Montrose Business College, returned to Clarens to work there for
another 2 years. I had a wonderful 3 years there and learned so much, but at the end of
last year I decided that it was time to do the London experience. This year I decided I needed a change, packed my bags and headed for the pound sign. Yup, London was a-calling. Been here for four months, along with two friends from back home. And the rest of them are coming over at the end of the year - so missing home is not really an issue, apart from my dog! Have a very interesting (and well-paid!) job in the Research/Design Department at Merrill Lynch Financial Centre (situated directly across from St Paul's Cathedral - when I leave work I can here the church bells tolling and it's the most amazing sound). Prince Charles is actually officiating the opening of our new building downstairs as I type. Life over here is great, being independent and grown-up, whilst having a party at the same time. Really getting into the UK pub-culture. I am very much looking forward to travelling across Europe and am heading off to Paris, Amsterdam, Spain and Italy in the next two months. Been down to the south of England and Wales already (Stonehenge, Salisbury, New Forest, Southampton, Hereford and Cardiff). The beach at Portsmouth was something to behold - where's the sand?!? I also have in my possession tickets to the Chelsea vs Manchester United game at Stamford Bridge - a dream come true for this old footy-crazy gal. Have also been keeping up to date with Melanie Scholtz (also class of '96). She's currently performing in Norway and has just won the Cape Town Old Mutual Jazz Encounters Competition (Jazz Vocalist) for the second year in succession. Having watched her perform last year, I was utterly impressed and have no doubt that we will be hearing from her on much bigger stages." For those wishing to get in touch with her, her e-mail address is nagelbia@exchange.uk.ml.com Sharon McGuinness (now Hughes) wrote in April 2003: After graduating from WGHS, I moved to Southern California to study music therapy. After a while I realized that my true passion was Fine Art, at which point I changed my Major. I am now attending BIOLA University (Bible Institute of Los Angeles), although currently I'm taking a year off. Four summers ago, I met my husband, Steven Hughes, we were married on 7 September 2002 and we live near Laguna Beach in California. I had the joy of going to Hawaii for our honeymoon - I can't wait to go back!!! We are just loving married life and enjoying the many blessing the Lord has shown us. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me."
