1994

Lisa Buckles (1994)  Lisa Buckles is organising the 10 year reunion in December 2004, please contact her at lbuckles@pamgolding.co.za or buckles_lisa@hotmail.com

In March 2003, she wrote : "I am currently in Johannesburg - have been here for 4 years and totally love this city! I work as a investment analyst for a property fund, but studying again, so we will see what life holds after that! I am also into running and run half marathons most weekend - can you believe that - I hated exercise at school!!!!  Anyway, the reason for this email, apart from touching base, is to ask/suggest that since next year is our ten years out of school, that we organize a reunion at the end of the year. I am very keen to organize, and I think a few of the other 1994 matrics are as well."

In June 2004, these were the arrangements for the reunion "Lisa Buckles and her team of helpers, Hilary Gardner, Lesley Joubert and Ann Nordoff are planning a 1994 Reunion. At this stage a possible reunion date is 29th December 2004. We have received a number of suggestions including a tour of the school to see all the great changes followed by a social evening at a venue still to be decided. The Class of 1994 are asked to contact Lisa Buckles on her new email address lbuckles@pamgolding.co.za  We will keep in contact with the school as our planning progresses!"

I work in the government relations department of the California Healthcare Association. When leaving South Africa I visited Egypt which was really amazing, especially the pyramids. My favourite place to visit is San Francisco which is so beautiful and just an hours drive from Sacramento. I was so pleasantly surprised to find the website for Wynberg Girls High School, now I can regularly read up on what is happening at the school. I would love to hear from other old girls from my year ... and teachers. E-mail address:tdawood@calhealth.org

Kerkham Joy - now Murray (1994) wrote to us in January 2003: "I live in New Zealand and would love to hear from anyone from our era, what are you all doing with your lives? Andrews Ashlea - now Spammer -  (1993) in April 2002 wrote...
Having written matric in 1993, I went on to complete an HDE (Senior Primary) at Cape Town College of Education. Having completed that, I decided to further my studies at Stellenbosch University and completed a BA in History, English and Psychology and a BEd in Education Psychology. Last year I taught Grade 5 at Wynberg Boys' Junior and wrote an external exam to qualify as a Psychometrist. In December last year I married Dennis Spammer - a fellow teacher (at Rondebosch Prep) and on December 30, we left for the UK in order for Dennis to take up a wonderful job opportunity. At present we are living in Chepstow which is on the border between South Wales and England. We are both teaching at the local independent school where I am teaching kindergarten (which is a great experience!!) and Dennis is coaching cricket. Later this year we will move to Dulwich in South east London for Dennis to take up a job at another independent school as fulltime cricket coach. I hope that all staff are surviving yet another busy term and I would like to say hi to all the staff members who taught me. Hope to hear from you soon - e-mail address: denash27@hotmail.com

Cadenhead Lindsay (1993) in August 2002 wrote: I 've been living in Windsor, in the UK since 1999, I work for theElectrolux Corporation as there pricing controller, which should make my old teachers laugh if they remember my marks for maths, because I now work with figures all day. Funny how life works out. At the moment I am quite happy here but do look forward to returning to Cape Town one day, I can't imagine raising a family without my Mum nearby, I just have to persuade my boyfriend that he wants to live there too. But he's from New Zealand so at the moment I am just trying to break down his hate for the Springboks after the Kiwi loss of the 1995 World Cup. Other than that I do go home quite regularly but you end up with so little time you never see everyone you'd like too. I'd love to hear from any of my old class mates far and near and my old teachers if they have the time. Look forward to hearing from anyone. Contact email lindsay.cadenhead@electrolux.co.uk

Harwig Liesa (1993) now Strong - I emigrated to New Zealand in 1995, cross-crediting from my Interior Design Degree (at Cape Tech) to a Spatial Design Degree (at Auckland University of Technology). I am now married to a wonderful New Zealand man and my latest
venture is a career change from Commercial Designer to Secondary School Art Teacher! Since immigrating I have lost contact with a lot of my old school friends and with all the developments at WGHS, I would greatly appreciate it if you could include me on the Past Pupils page ...E-mail address: mlstrong@ihug.co.nz

Bawolska Gosia (1992) wrote to us in August 2003: After leaving Wynberg I went to UCT for one year. I moved to Canada in 1994 and finished off my degree in Economics and Political Science at the University of Toronto. I came to Vancouver and got my Law degree from the University of British Columbia. I have just been called to the Bar and I'm practicing in downtown Vancouver. I've also learned how to ski and love ice hockey! Please drop me a line at gosia101@hotmail.com

Ellenberger Lisa wrote to us in January 2005 "I've spent the last few years managing restaurants in Cape Town and Somerset
West, and have just recently moved back to Cape Town. Feel free to contact me on twupop@mweb.co.za to let me know what is happening in your lives. E-mail twupop@mweb.co.za

Sarah Hudson (1992) wrote in August: I have just came across the website. Here's my 2 minute update :-) After matric, I went to UCT and got a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering. I worked in Cape Town for a couple years, and then went to the University of Massachusetts in the USA to get my masters degree in Electrical Engineering. I now work for a patent law firm in Boston, where I now live, and have just finished my first year of law school at Suffolk University Law School in Boston. Her e-mail address is Sarah.Hudson@WolfGreenfield.com

Lamb Hayley (1992) left her details with us, and can be e-mailed at hayley_lamb@ml.com

Lauren Lavery (1992) contacted us in August and wrote this to us: After matriculating in 1992 I went to UCT where I studied for 4 years, graduating with a BA in English and Psychology (after toying with a BCOM in my first year!). I joined an inbound tour operator, Into Africa, in December 1996 and worked as a senior travel consultant, dealing with the foreign tourist market, and also got to travel all over South Africa, which was a great perk. I married David Potgieter in January 1999, and we left Cape Town in February 2000 to move to London. We have been living in Wimbledon ever since. Both David and I work in the city - I work as a PA to a team of 8 at Deutsche Asset Management, and David is a supervisor at an Investment Management firm in the West End. We have had fantastic opportunities to travel while we have been here and have almost completed all the "must do's" on our list. My sister, Catherine, has been in London for the past 18 months, and we have travelled together to Switzerland (snowboarding), Ireland, New York andaround England. David and I plan to return to Cape Town within the next 2 years. My e-mail address is: lauren,potgieter@db.com

Weldon Robynn (1992) wrote in October 2002: "My mind turned to Wynberg when I heard about the reunion this year (class of
92). While I won't be at the reunion, I can fill you in on what I've been up to.

After matriculating, I worked with handicapped children for a year, at Bel Porto School in Lansdowne. I then studied English, as well as Greek and Roman Literature and Thought, at UCT, graduating with an English Honours degree in 1997. After a few months in London, I returned to Cape Town and took a secretarial job while I registered with Unisa for a business degree (completed in 2001). In 1999, I moved to Joburg (which, let the record show, is not at all one of the circles of hell), with my boyfriend Armin whom I met at UCT, and got a job as sub-editor on City Press. After three years there, sub-editing and for a glorious year, doing the film reviews and features, I quit and started freelancing, mostly for The Star. Armin, meanwhile, had moved to London to do a Masters in Communication Design, and when I realised how what a good time he was having without me of course I had to come over and spoil his fun. This required some cunning visa manoeuvres and before I knew what was happening, I was married! So here I am, married in London. I'm working on a weekly business magazine and love my life - long may it continue.

Wilkinson Nikki (1992) was delighted to hear about the reunion happening in December. Her e-mail address is nikkiw@sondor.co.za

Shona Young (1992) is working in the Environmental Evaluation Unit at the University of Cape Town. E-mail address: young@enviro.uct.ac.za

Natalie Du Bois wrote to us in August 2004: "Hi there, just noticed this site - here is what happend to me since WGHS.
After leaving Wynberg Girls in 1991, I studied Interior Design in Cape Town. Later I traveled to London as most of us have for a few years. I started working for Harrods in Knightsbridge initially and then worked for a couple of the top kitchen design companies based in Knightsbridge, Chelsea and Chiswick. After living in England for just under 6 years I decided to move to Auckland, New Zealand where I am still designing kitchens and thoroughly enjoying it. If any of my old school mates end up this way, would love to catch up, email me on nats_dubois@hotmail.com

Godwin Kathy – now Matthews- (1991).  I was a pupil at Wynberg and I just found the WGHS web site. I'd love an update about the impending class reunion for the class of 1991. I live in Vancouver, Canada and would love to have the details. Thank you. E-mail address k&lmatthews@telus.net

Rothschild, Bianca (1991) wrote in December 2002: "My sister, Tamsin, and I both attended WGHS, my little sister, Amy WGJS. We are all living in Australia, Tamsin and Amy live together in Sydney. I live with my partner of seven years in Melbourne, we are planning a move to LA around the end 2003. I work in design and marketing and have a strong passion for personal and spiritual development. I did leave Wynberg in Std 8 (matriculated 1991) but still would love to keep in touch. Tamsin finished in 1993 and moved with the family to Sydney...but later returned to UCT where she did Drama!! Please forward any information from that year, as these were all my class mates. (1991) Her e-mail address is bianca@livingenergies.com.au

Weldon Barbara (1991) Her sister filled us in on these details: She moved to Joburg to study accounting at Wits. Along the way she decided she'd rather teach than, as originally planned, become a CA. So she did an HDE and is now teaching Accounting and Business Economics at Red Hill School in Bryanston, a lovely private school. She's also publishing a series of study guides
(under her married name, Williamson, and brilliantly edited by yours truly), which are selling very well and I wish I'd cut a royalty deal. She is also an Avon lady, or more precisely a coordinator, and organises a whole battalion of well moisturised Avon ladies. In short, the very model of suburban bliss. Her email is bwilliamson@redhill.co.za
