Past Pupils Chat up a Storm in the New Tuckshop on 13 September! It became clear, amidst the serious chatting, hilarity and joy, that the past pupils of Wynberg are the kinds of women who forge deep and lasting friendships. It was equally clear, as some moved on in fairly large groups at the end of the function, that the getting together for a mere two hours was not going to be enough to catch up with each other, and fill each other in on their lives. Particularly delighted to be together were the classes of 1961, 1981 and 1999 Shirley Cartmel our tuckshop convenor knows how to make people want to stay: with a combination of excellent wines, fruit juices and fine food, many were reluctant to go home. And our gracious and hospitable hostess (and Principal) Shirley Harding reiterated the schools' delight in seeing all of our past pupils again. Inviting all past pupils to visit the school anytime (including those who were unable to make it on this occasion) she talked of our joy in being able to welcome them back. There were shrieks of delight as the past pupils caught up on the news of staff members who were institutions in their lives - wonderful teachers who had transformed their lives and who they heard were now, upon their retirement, transforming gardens, and transforming switchboards and front offices... or as they heard of Counsellors who had become Principals. It was confirmed: Wynberg women are movers! And there was equal joy as the staff at Wynberg heard of the range of experiences of those who had attended Wynberg. It was, for all who attended, a very happy occasion. Past Pupils signed up to have their names included on our electronic database so that we can inform you of what is happening at the school and so that we can enable you to get in touch with us, and with each other. Just watch this space as we bring you more of the Founders' Day Assembly, Celebrations and reunions in the year 2001. |
