OPEN DAY-Monday 28 February 2000

Time 3:00- 6:00

Prospective students and parents of Wynberg Girls' High were invited to view the school on Monday, 28 February and given the freedom of our school. At a specified time, guests were invited to attend an address in the hall by two Grade Eight pupils (A.Botha and S.Higginbotham) and Mrs Harding, who provided the visitors with important information about the school and showed some orientation slides.

Parents and prospective pupils were taken on guided tours by the prefects, and invited to observe us at work and play. Two members of the web committee trailed after the visitors to find out what their thoughts were about some of the cultural activities they had seen. Perhaps the most heart warming for us, and one which so many of us endorse, was hearing one pupil exclaim excitedly to her parents "I'm not only impressed, I'm at home." Others were impressed with the quality of the work done by our students, and we heard them saying in more subdued tones, "Lots of talented girls around here" and "Jeez, the Artwork is excellent, hey?" It was clear that some of them had decided there and then that Wynberg was the school for them, and cheerfully said, "I'll see you next year, definitely."

Ms Orpen was hot on the committee's trail, obtaining footage of some of the scenes our guests were invited to see. Guests observed the choir rehearsing, the Xhosa Society dancing and the Latin girls enjoying a Roman Banquet. Take a peep at these snippets with them.

Having snatched up just some of the excitement of the afternoon, we hot-footed it back to the computer room to post this story for our records.
