Hayley Thomson - National Parks Board After the fires which devastated Cape Town in February this year, one of our past pupils Hayley Thomson visited the school to advise us on its impact on the environment. We learnt that perhaps it was not such a bad thing from an environmental point of view. Apart from the quick eradication of hundreds of hectares of alien vegetation, fynbos needed fire to germinate. She appealed to those concerned about such issues to assist the National Parks Board in working to eradicate completely the roots of the alien vegetation and to work towards preventing possible landslides which might occur when the Winter rains fell.
