Schools have until Friday to enter
the popular Dentyne high schools environmental quiz.
Sponsored by Warner Lambert, the Cape Argus and Good Hope FM and organised by the Fairest
Cape
organisation and the Institute of Waste Management, the competition is aimed at expanding
pupils knowledge
of environmental problems.
Bursaries valued at R7500, R5000 and R2500 are up for grabs. The top three teams and their
teachers will go on a week-long Educo environmental adventure, designed to
develop their leadership skills and build skills in communication and problem-solving. It
is also promised to be a lot of fun.
Teams of four from all schools will take part in round one on April 12, and in round two
on April 19. |
The top six schools will go forward
to the final round on May 9. Once a school has entered the competition, they
will receive information packs containing a booklet called Wise Up on Waste as
well as newspaper and magazine articles on environmental issues.
The quiz questions have been compiled by the Institute of Waste Management in consultation
with the Fairest
Cape Association and are based on the information pack.
Last years winners, Wynberg Girls' High, went one step further and created an
interactive board game called
War on Waste.
