WYNBERG GIRLS' HIGH RECOGNISES EXCELLENCE WITHIN FOUR PILLARS OF THE SCHOOL
For the second time, on Monday 26 July in a special assembly, the trophies representing the four pillars of the school were awarded
to four of our pupils. These awards are given to those who are recognised by the school - their teachers and their peers - to be
deserving candidates because of outstanding achievement in the areas of Academic, Culture, Service and Sport.
They are high achievers, and are richly deserving of the recognition they
receive.
The recipients receive their trophies from

Rebecca Blundell, for her outstanding contribution to the Academic Pillar
The Athena Trophy for the
second term has been awarded to a young lady who has excelled in academics in
various fields while continuing to participate in all spheres of school life as
well as in holding a leadership position in the school.
She
has participated in Olympiads, has a broad general knowledge and has excelled in
English as well as achieving a superb overall aggregate of 90,7% in the June
examinations. All this is done is a
calm manner – she handles pressure extremely well and we are proud of her

Tara Notcutt, for her outstanding contribution to the Cultural Pillar
The cultural trophy, Orpheus with his
lyre, is awarded to a person recognized by her peers and the teachers as one who has worked hard to develop the cultural pillar of the school in a number of
ways: a matriculant, she is an extremely talented actress: her skills in this regard could have been seen at our Open Day earlier this year, the Arts Festival and the Major Production produced by the boys’ school this year. She has been involved in all Open days, Arts Festivals and every single Major Production since arriving at our school in Grade Eight. Her achievements as an accomplished actress have been recognized by external examiners where she has participated annually in Drama Eisteddfods and Examinations. In more than 90% of these, she has achieved a Diploma – the highest award that is given to an actress. Working brilliantly not only individually, she has proved to be a superb team member, and is part of the award-winning Grade Twelve Drama group.
In her Grade Eleven year, she proved to be an accomplished writer and director: the award-winning play which she wrote, directed and acted in for her house in 2003, obtained for her the title “Best Director.”
Her writing skills have been put to the test significantly this year, where in her capacity as Press Officer for the school, she has submitted numerous articles to the local press. In every instance, she has been given a by-line (ie her name, and the name of the school have been published together with the article.) In doing this she has brought honour and recognition to both herself and to the school. As an executive member of Wynpress, she also writes for the for her immediate school community.
She is a person who has revealed an unquestionable commitment to the development of the cultural pillar of Wynberg, and it is with great pleasure that we award this trophy to Tara Notcutt.

Michelle Fourie, for her outstanding contribution to the pillar of Service
It has been said that if
you give a busy person something to do, they somehow find a way to fit it into
their schedule and get the job done.
The
trophy for service goes to one such learner who has given tirelessly of her time
in many of the different areas of service.
Many of her breaks and afternoons are devoted to these activities. She

commitment to the school and the activities she is involved in.
She has often stepped in at a moment’s notice, when others have been
unable to help out. This
learner is vice head of the first aid team and the network operating crew, works
as a librarian, is a member of the technical team AND a peer tutor in the
academic support programme. In

Ilse Davids, for her outstanding contribution to the pillar of Sport
Today’s recipient of the Discobolos Trophy has excelled at her sport and reached the pinnacle in her particular field. Not only is she a member of the first team at Wynberg, but she was then selected to represent Western Province. She was an integral part of the Western Province team who made it to the final of the IPT held in July in Cape Town. From there she was selected to represent South Africa, and next month she will find herself winging off to Uruaguay wearing the Green and Gold. Only hard work, determination and commitment to her sport has made this all possible.Ilse Davids is truly a most worthy recipient of the Discobolos Trophy for her outstanding achievements in her sport, Hockey. |
