Valentine's Day Assembly

Congestion builds at the door as groups of very eager girls queue to be the first in, to grab a seat up front. I must admit, I am one of those girls, but this much awaited Assembly has been too anticipated to settle for a seat at the back.

Prefects try to control the crowd, and teachers struggle to get through the hoards. Girls push and pull, snapping at each other; animal instincts are loose. I think they need to be reminded this is Valentine's Day; day of love and good will. However, I manage to make new friends in this multitude of people, or is it just that they are underhandedly plotting to push past me, to get ahead?

Finally, we are given access. The hall is magnificent; superbly decorated - was it by the Home Economics students? As for lighting, the Technical Team can be very proud. There is a countdown to the start.

The prefects have, once again, delivered a thoroughly entertaning show, and one which is especially wonderful for those who received roses. We are thrown into the hype of preparing for Sam's party - the heartache, the sorrow of those who are not cool, the wisdom of those that are. The efforts to become so...

At Sam's party there are the bouncers and the arrivals. We see the jocks, the geeks, the trendoids and the DJ - but where is Sam. There is preening and prancing, and a sorrowful attempt at breakdancing. When all is revealed - including the host (Sam!) - we celebrate the triumph of love.

When the show is over, the girls charge out of the doors with as much haste as they had trying to get in. Bands of red-clad girls hover to get their roses, and as the boxes of roses empty, the school does too.
