Once again parents and prospective pupils were impressed with Wynberg Girls' High as they visited us on 19 February - an open day held for prospective pupils of the school . Once again they were invited to an address in the hall by Mrs Harding, who provided the visitors with important information about the school. Thereafter they were were taken on guided tours by the prefects, and invited to observe us at work and play. Two members of the web committee trailed after the visitors to find out what their thoughts were about some of the cultural activities they had seen. Perhaps the most heart warming for us, and one which so many of us endorse, was hearing one pupil exclaim excitedly to her parents "I'm not only impressed, I'm at home." The dads particularly were bowled over by our computer centre, but many of the Grade sevens were delighted with the range of sports offered - not to mention the facilities. One of the pupils seemed particularly delighted that the pool was so sparkling! Others were impressed with the quality of the work done by our students, and we heard them saying in more subdued tones, "Lots of talented girls around here" and "Jeez, the Artwork is excellent, hey?" It was clear that some of them had decided there and then that Wynberg was the school for them, and cheerfully said, "you're not going to keep me away from this school - I'm definitely coming here." Guests observed the choir rehearsing, the Xhosa Society, dancing and the Latin girls enjoying a Roman Banquet. There were Ballet classes, and drama classes, Waterpolo, cricket and softball matches to observe. Clinics, debates were in session and welcoming committees from a range of societies were placed at various sections of the school. Our enthusiastic guides did us proud, as their obvious pride in the school was evident. One beaming guide was heard to tell her group earnestly that our Library had every single book in it! At 17:30 the last information session of the afternoon was held for parents and pupils, as staff and pupils from Wynberg began to rap up yet another busy day in their calendar. But it is on occasions like these that we are able to see our school through new and appreciative eyes and to bask in the glory of our splendid school. |
