Wynberg Girls' High sets up Blood Clinics to find bone
marrow matches - 3rd to 5th March

at the clinic
Wynberg Girls' High has set up the three clinics to take
blood from concerned friends and members of the Wynberg Campus of Schools community for
our beloved Grade Eleven pupils, Lindy Anderson. There has been fairly significant
coverage of this courageous young Wynberg woman, who recently was diagnosed with
Leukaemia.
These were just some of the volunteers who were there
on Monday evening
As would be known by her friends and the
Wynberg community, Lindy is an active and enthusiastic sixteen year old. She excels
academically, was recently awarded her full Drama colours, plays waterpolo, writes for the
Wynpress, is involved with her church and generally embraces life.
20 days ago all this changed. She is now in hospital and has a particularly rare type of
leukaemia which cannot be treated with chemotherapy.
The South African Bone Registry is underfunded and can only process limited blood samples
at a time. The laboratory is small and is at present fully booked with a drive
for another ill child whose requirements differ from Lindys. A laboratory in
Johannesburg has a greater capacity to test larger numbers of blood for which they charge
a fee of R200.00 per potential donor. To enable larger numbers of people to be tested a
fundraising drive has been initiated by Kim Anderson, Lindys older sister, who is a
doctor at Groote Schuur Hospital.
The Friends of the South African Bone Marrow Registry, also known as The Sunflower Fund, is supporting and collaborating with
Wynberg Girls' High School in our effort to help Lindy. It was founded by Tina Botha, the
mother of Chris Corlett, during his heroic struggle against Leukaemia.

Hardworking members of The Sunflower Fund
It is a race against time! We are appealing to
you to be tested in the hopes of finding a match for her and, in so doing, to swell the
data base for the Bone Marrow Registry. We are also hoping for donations, however small,
to enable the search to be expanded.
The Sunflower Fund will sponsor the testing of 400 donors at a clinic, to be held in the
school hall by the Pathcare Laboratory, on Monday 3rd March from 5pm 8pm. Smaller
clinics for 50 donors will be held on Tuesday 4th March and Wednesday 5th March from 5pm
7pm.

Please come and give two teaspoons of your blood during
this time. It may just give Lindy another chance at the life she loves so much.
