The Little Touring Theatre Company comes to Wynberg
This year, the Shakespearean tragedy studied by the Matrics is King Lear, and on
Friday 28 February, The Little Touring Theatre Company presented an abridged version of
the play to them, highlighting some of the key themes. Revealing and commenting on the
contemporary nature of the play, issues of justice, folly and wisdom were emphasised.

Scenes from The Little Touring Theatre Company's production of King Lear
For several years now, this versatile and
talented company has been invited to Wynberg Girls' High to present and discuss aspects of
the Matric syllabus with our students, and each year they prove to be an invaluable
support to teachers of the Matric English syllabus. Performances such as these are aimed
at bringing their literary texts to life, and enlarging their educational experience of
our pupils and the Little Touring Theatre's production of King Lear this year was
no exception
Discussion with the matrics at the end of the show centred on characterisation, whether or
not justice had prevailed and the role of the gods: the classic questions of whether or
not Lear was "a man more sinned against than sinning" was also raised. It seemed
that we had scarcely begun discussing the issues, when our time was up, and our visitors
had to leave. We are extremely appreciative of the work of actors who bring us productions
such as these.
