On Friday 24 October, on a wet and blustery evening, a number of us were invited to end the week in an exceptionally fine way: the Music students' exam concert took place. We were treated to styles ranging from Beethoven to the Beatles, and listened to instruments which included the piano, flute and recorder. Some of the favourites of the evening had to include Marchetti's Fascination, McCartney and Lennon's Yesterday, A North's Unchained Melody and Offenbach's Bacarolle. The Flute Ensemble's Dream Theme by C Evans drew rapt applause as did the Tanz 6 by the Recorder Ensemble. There were vocal duets and piano duets - and there was little doubt left in the mind of the audience, that there are some very accomplished musicians at Wynberg. The superb vocal training which our girls have received this year from both Mrs Barwise and Ms Opperman were amply revealed in the performances of Raelene Adams and Michaela Paterson and Sarah and Joanna O'Carroll who sang Wind Beneath my Wings and Somewhere Out There respectively. After the performance, Stacey Lewis, Head of Music, thanked the audience for attending the concert, and invited them to share a cup of tea with the Music Department. |
