Inaugural Meeting of the Research and Study Group
Rooting their research in Naomi Klein's No Logo, Lauren Hartmann and Pranisha
Maharaj, who had focused on Chanel and the life of Coco Chanel were brave enough to lead
the way with their presentation. The depth and thoroughness of their research - and
unforgettable model of the Chanel little black box - delighted all. Their presentation
sparked an open discussion on the nature of advertising, revealing just a few of the
powerfully manipulative techniques employed and some very interesting details about Coco
Chanel's life and her industry. The advertising world, often reflecting both positive and
negative trends in our own society, offers the discerning reader or audience far more to
uncover and discover than that which might originally have
been perceived. It was this wider world of image, brands and reputation that was explored.
