Congratulations to the Matrics of 2005: not only have your results earned us the citation of being "an Academically Excellent school", they have also led the Minister of Education to describe Wynberg Girls' High as one of the "top ten schools in the Western Cape."  1

This descriptor of "Academic Excellence" is based on our "outstanding academic results achieved in Senior Certificate Examinations from the years 2003-2005", but it is also a certificate that we have received since its inception. In order to qualify for the certificate, the school needs excellence in academic results over the three years 2003-2005, to have achieved an overall pass rate of at least 95% and a matriculation endorsement rate in excess of 70% and a merit pass rate of at least 45% and a distinction rate of at least 15%.

Shan Zhao was the Dux pupil at Wynberg Girls' High in this year's external Senior Certificate examination, and two of our candidates were amongst the top three in the province: Sheona Innes (Dance Higher Grade) and Mary-Anne Khutuka (isiXhosa Second Language Higher Grade). This year, thirty-four candidates (ie 24.8%) achieved A-aggregates in the final exam, and there were one hundred and four subject distinctions. We salute the efforts of our 2005 Matriculants and list those (in alphabetical order) who obtained A aggregates for you:

Once again, Wynberg Girls' High boasts a 100% pass rate. Of the 137 candidates who wrote the full examinations (one was unable to write the full complement because of illness), there were thirty-four girls who passed with distinction and seventy-four who passed with merit (an average of 60 to 79%). This means that 78.8% percent of the grouping obtained an average of above sixty percent. Of those who wrote the examination, 93.4% of the candidates obtained full matric endorsement.

Particularly noteworthy within the individual subjects were the subjects in which the grade average was above 70%. These include isiXhosa Second Language , isiXhosa Third Language, Geography Higher Grade; Art Higher Grade, and Music Higher Grade. Subjects in which there were the highest number of distinctions included Biology Higher Grade, English Higher Grade and Afrikaans Second Language Higher Grade.

We salute the achievements both the individual candidates of Wynberg Girls' High and their teachers.
