HISTORY OUTING - GRADE 11
On Wednesday, 24 and Thursday 25 October, the Grade Eleven History girls went on an outing
to the Holocaust Museum in Cape Town. As we are studying this period in History, it was
topical, and served to give us another perspective of this time in History.
The museum dealt with the brutal murders of 6 million Jews during WW2, by the Nazi
Government. It showed us the lives of Jews before the war, and how dramatically this
changed once Hitler came into power.
We also had the immense priviledge of listening to a talk by a survivor of the Nazi
concentration camps. Most of our eyes filled with tears, as she described her experiences
as a teenager during this time, and how she lost all of her family, and the horrific
circumstances she was subjected to in the camps.
This moving experience touched all of us: we concurred that there is much to be learnt
about tolerance and compassion - especially with our own recent history.
