For many of the subjects in the performing arts, this time of the year marks the end of practical work, as they prepare for their practical examinations. We were fortunate to be allowed to pop in to see what our ballet girls were doing on 30 November.
It is clear that this is a subject in which all round attention to detail, such as technique; musicality; artistry; etiquette; and hard work is given. Students who take the subject argue that it is a wonderful primer for any student’s attitude and ability in all their present and future studies within the academic athletic and artistic world.
For all of the complaints that are made to parents and friends as our girls prepare for their examinations, they do concede that they offer students a challenge to show their understanding of the work and to execute the steps. We have a number of video clips from the exam of warming up exercises and snippets from one of the dances which the Grade Elevens performed on several occasions at various shows. |
