2001 Matric Art Exhibition
The work of the 2001 Matric learners was displayed in the Aileen
Currie Hall and Ballet Hall on Friday, 12 October for the viewing of parents, friends and
those whose interest is drawn to the world of art. The crowd, which presented itself on
the evening, served as proof of the excellent reputation the artworks elicited.
As always, the Matrics proved themselves to be capable of work of an extraordinarily high
standard with styles ranging from Kim Hutton's lyrical, floating works in dancing colours,
to Ruschda van der Westerhuizen's silky, butter-soft flowers. Themes were wide-ranging and
were sophisticated explorations such as Angie Knagg's 'Capturing of moments' and the
socio-political works of Alex Wiid.
At the event, Mrs Harding commented that it was more than evident that all were astounded
at the remarkable achievements of the girls. It was equally evident that their teacher
seemed to have a magical ability to draw their talents from them. Perhaps it was fitting
that it was on this occasion that the Matrics took a moment to thank Ms Vosloo for her
friendship and teaching, presenting her with a gift which revealed that their histories
were intricately bound: a gift of the (favourite) paintbrushes which they had used
in their Matric year with her.
All in all it was an enormously satisfying evening, coloured with creativity and textured
with appreciative smiles. We thought that you might want to meet the artists and their
work.
